SunFeb26 Hits Coming Out Of Our Holes!

We've got hit, hit, hits! I'll get to the music in a second, but after a week on Bebo, I'm nearly at 6,000 visits to my profile page - and here on rayfoley.net, we're getting around 3k hits a week! No, we're not gonna start selling out and advertising - but remember... Don't just tell a friend - Tell EVERYONE! Seriously though, I'm delighted with that response. keep checkin in here, and I'll keep spewing the shit you love.

In news - well, Dublin's in a jock after a few lads had a row up on O'Connell Street. You may have heard about it. I reckon it's the first time in ten years the building materials got any use... disgraceful, disgraceful - but if you can't laugh at it, what can you do? Anyone selling any cheap runners?

We're looking at the idea of a podcast that'd let us say whatever we want... probably won't happen, but hey, at least we're looking at it.

I spent much of the weekend reading through the fifteen-thousand emails I had allowed to build up on my PC over the past six months. As I was sorting through them and deleting the crap, I kept quite a lot of the funny stuff I've been sent over that time, which I'll share here over the next couple of weeks.

ThuFeb23 Kerry Chips...

Oh, what a week - that was a good one.

Anyway I'm takin' herself down to Kerry for the weekend and the flight (posh or what?) down is at 7.40am, which means I need to get up at six, which means if I go to bed right now, I'll get five hours sleep. And I'm not going to bed right now.

That Eminem song's great, isn't it? Completely restores my faith in him. But the Kelis one is pretty poor - in that case, it'll be huge.

Well, I suppose I'd better take a break from Bebo to actually update the old rayfoley.net weblog.

The past two nights have been devoid of updates because we've been doing this:

Yes, that's JP's Chemical Bros t-shirt. And yes, we've been playing pool and drinkin' the newly-discovered, and very drinkable Coors Light. Yes, I'm a sissy bitch. That's Al on the right. As in, funky-phone-boy Alan. We've been there after the show the past couple of nights. It's good craic actually. We've also had a proper laugh on the show the past two nights, because Al's been in laughing at our jokes (always very encouraging when you can make a ginger laugh) and my younger brother Morgan was in tonight (again, a ginge - same deal).

I introduced Morgan to Donal (Dineen) tonight, who (in all seriousness) asked if Morgan was my big brother. There are four years between us. I was like a demon.

So, that's the past couple of nights. Very, VERY uninteresting.

MonFeb20 OXEGEN!!!

Had a few cheeky Monday afternoon beers at the official announcement of the first few Oxegen acts for 2006.

Tim Kash of MTV was there in all his short, toothy glory to do the honours. I would've taken a pic, but that would only give him a big head. So, here's the most important bit of the press release instead. It's been in my arse pocket for the past six hours:

There's a snotty trout on boards.ie who keeps having a go at the show. Now, I'm all for slagging (hey, you've heard the show) and if she'd just said we were crap once or twice or even three times then I'd be cool with it: everyone is entitled to their opinion and not everyone can love the show - but she's got a right vendetta going on now. And for what? If you've got that much of a problem with us, then just... go away!

WedFeb15 Racism, Bebo, and Listeners...

I think I might be a racist. Not in the way you'd imagine, like the traditional gobsheens who feel they can blame all their troubles on the non-national family down the road. No, I think I'm a racist in an entirely different - but not necessarily better - way. I've been finding myself in these situations more and more, and for any of you living and working in Dublin, you'll agree that these situations where you must deal with foreigners are now commonplace. I was sorting out the stuff for my driver's license the other day, and everyone at the test center bar the two people working there, myself and one other Irish dude was non-national. I then went to get my eyes tested, where a non-national was being trained-in to use the machinery. Then I had a coffee where, of course, a non-national served me.

Not that I'm complaining - it's the way it is and that doesn't bother me. What bothers me is the way I deal with these people: that's what makes me think I'm a racist.

For instance, I just got a cab home and the driver was not from this country - it was obvious from his accent. Now, as any Dublin (as in, Irish) taxi driver who's ever given me a lift will tell you, Ray Foley is not a chatty passenger. It's a quick hello, how're things, and we get to our destination in silence. Not so tonight. In fact tonight, I went out of my way to try to be friendly, polite, funny and charming. Yes, all the things I'm not. Why? Because I didn't want him to think I was a racist! But clearly because he was foreign, I felt compelled to act differently, and felt like a right wally after getting out of the car. It must be a kind of anti-racist racism, and I do it all the time! If the non-national is taking his/her time at the till for my change, if my order is mixed up, or if any other thing that would piss me off if an Irish person did it occurs - I act totally differently.

Furthermore, I just HATE people like that - those who jump on the outrage bandwagon at the drop of a hat. As you will have heard me discuss on air a number of times, skinny people outraged at fat remarks, straight people outraged at gay remarks etc, just pisses me off. You're a saint - good for you. Now leave the rest of us to be assholes if we want.

It's a strange balancing act: hate them and you're a prick for hating them (plus, it's obviously wrong); love them and you feel like a prick for being false. Instead of just doing my own natural thing in future, I'll be lovely to every second foreign person I have to deal with and a total wanker with every other, shouting abuse and making a scene. Look out for me - it should be a laugh.

SunFeb12 BACK!

Where's the week gone, eh? Well, I've been too lazy to update you on our boring week off - had a good enough show tonight, with about like, eleven text messages. Busy, busy, busy!

I was in lovely Sligo last weekend, where I stayed in the new Clarion Hotel, which is in a former mental home. They think of everything there - they even give you lil' rubber ducks in your bath:

What? Why are you here? I said I wouldn't be updating because I'm in a strop.

Very quickly - got a couple of emails tonight you may have seen before:

This is a car advertisement from the UK. When they finished filming the ad, the film editor noticed something moving along the side of the car, like a ghostly white mist. They found out that a person had been killed a year earlier in that exact same spot. The ad was never put on TV because of the unexplained ghostly phenomenon. Watch the front end of the car as it clears the trees in the middle of the screen and you'll see the white mist crossing in front of the car then following it along the road....Spooky! Is it a ghost, or is it simply mist?! You decide. If you listen to the ad, you'll even hear the cameraman whispering in the background about it near the end of the commercial...
